Emma the Fox - A Free Crochet Pattern

Meet sweet Emma the Fox, measuring at 13 inches tall she is ready to cuddle! Emma is the newest addition to my Forest themed animals and also comes in a boy version. You can find Eli here!

The Grace and Yarn Crochet Group is growing and I love seeing your projects and the patterns you're working on.

If you haven't joined yet, head on over and share your WIP, ask questions and engage with a warm community who also love to crochet! I'll keep you updated on new patterns, giveaways, and tutorials!

In most of my patterns I use plastic safety eyes, they are easy and fast to install. However, they are not recommended for children under 3.

If you are making this for a little one or don't have the size needed on hand, I recommend using my crochet thread eyes as an alternative!

Are you new to amigurumi? Be sure to check out my tips and materials page to help you get started!

You may make and sell items made from this pattern but please do not sell, share or reproduce the actual pattern. If you sell finished items online (Etsy, etc) please provide a link to the pattern and credit to me as the designer, thank you. I hope you enjoy this pattern!

Easy Crochet Mop Cover - A Free Pattern and Tutorial

Earlier in the week I shared with you my tutorial for the Crunch Stitch, and today I have a fun and re-usable pattern to go with it!

I love to use my sweeper mop because of how easy it is. When I ran out of the disposable cloths that came with it I didn't want to buy more.

I wanted to make something I could re-use. I googled for patterns and didn't find what I had pictured in my head to use.

There are so many great patterns out there, but my favorite stitch for washing and scrubbing is the crunch stitch. So I decided to make my own.

The texture in the crunch stitch is why I love it for cleaning and the look of the uniformed stitches is an extra bonus.

There are few stitches involved making it a great project to whip up quickly while watching your favorite show.

Because they make up fast and affordably they make great gifts and inventory for a craft fair!

Below I have used I Love This Cotton Yarn by Hobby Lobby. They have a great color selection, the yarn doesn't fade as much or as quickly as others I've tried, and it's nice and soft to work with. I used one skein to make one mop cover and still had 1/4 of the skein left over!

These mop covers measure 10 inches long and 5 inches wide.

My posts are usually amigurumi related as it's a huge passion of mine! So, in case you're thinking my niche has changed, worry no more. I will be back on track with a new pattern for you next week that adds to my forest animal friends!

PIN this to save for later or purchase an ad-free printable PDF in my Etsy or Ravelry store at a low cost!

You may make and sell items made from this pattern but please do not sell, share or reproduce the actual pattern. If you sell finished items online (Etsy, etc) please provide a link to the pattern and credit to me as the designer, thank you. I hope you enjoy this pattern!

This post contains affiliate links, please click here for more info. Thank you for supporting Grace and Yarn!

Materials:

 - 130 yards of cotton yarn
 - 4mm crochet hook (these are my favorite to use!)
 - Scissors
 - Tapestry needle to weave in ends
 - Stitch markers (optional, they can come in handy to keep rows even)

US Abbreviations:

  • Ch - Chain
  • HDC - Half double crochet
  • Sl st - Slip stitch
  • SC - Single crochet

Gauge:

22 rows should be a 5" x 5" square, adjust your hook size accordingly if your sample swatch is a different size (Example: Try going up a hook size if your swatch is smaller; Go down a hook size if your swatch is bigger)

Here we go!

Chain 25

Row 1: HDC in the 2nd ch from your hook, sl st in the next, repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches)

NOTE- Each row will always start with a HDC and end with a slip stitch, this is one of my favorite parts because it helps me keep my rows even so I don't miss or add a stitch.

It can also be handy to put a stitch marker in the last stitch of each row, this way when you reach the end you see where you need to place your last stitch.

Row 2: HDC in the first stitch, sl st in the next, repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn (24 stitches)

Rows 3-76: Repeat row 2

Your work should measure 16 inches long, do not fasten off, continue with border below

Border: SC around each of the four sides of your work completing 2 SC in each corner. This gives the cover a nice finished work and makes sewing a breeze!

Sewing:

Fold each side in 3 inches and sew sides together. I sewed down through the stitches and back up the next to give it a nice layered look. Weave in your ends.

You are done and ready to mop!

Be sure to join the Grace and Yarn Crochet Group on Facebook and share your projects. This is a growing community full of encouragement and inspiration. Plus stay up to date on new patterns and giveaways!

I'm curious, will you make these for yourself or someone else in mind?

The Crunch Stitch - A Free Crochet Tutorial

One of my all time favorite stitches is the Crunch Stitch! I love it for the texture it brings and simplicity involved to make it.

The crunch stitch is comprised of HDC and slip stitch, that's it!

This texture makes it perfect for washing and scrubbing. In fact, it is my favorite stitch to use for my wash cloths and dish cloths.

It is also great for blankets, loveys, scarves..the list could go on and on.

To make the crunch stitch you will want to have the desired weight of yarn and crochet hook for the project you plan to complete.

For a reference I like to use worsted weight yarn and my 5mm crochet hook if I am using it for a blanket, lovey or scarf.

When working with cotton yarn for wash cloths etc, I like to use my 4mm hook.

I will have a free pattern for you later this week that uses this beautiful stitch! *Update: My Easy Crochet Mop Cover pattern is now posted*

PIN this tutorial here to save it for a future project!

This post contains affiliate links, please click here for more info. Thank you for supporting Grace and Yarn!

Materials:

 - For this example below I am using 4mm hook and cotton yarn (I Love This Cotton Yarn), but as stated above you can use what is needed for your project
 - Scissors
 - Tapestry needle to weave in ends
 - Stitch markers (optional, they can come in handy to keep rows even)

US Abbreviations:

  • Ch - Chain
  • HDC - Half double crochet
  • Sl st - Slip stitch

Let's get crocheting!

Chain a multiple of 2 + 1 to start

Row 1: HDC in the 2nd ch from your hook, sl st in the next, repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn

Row 2: HDC in the first stitch, sl st in the next, repeat until the end of the row, ch 1 and turn

Repeat row 2 until you have the desired length

That's it! Easy, simple, beautiful stitch!

What have you made with the crunch stitch?

Amigurumi Cow - A Free Crochet Pattern

Cows are one of my daughter's favorite animals, they have officially decided that they will be farmers when they grow up! While we don't have room in our back yard for a real one I knew they would enjoy a plushie friend in the meantime.

These cows are slightly larger than most of my patterns but still work up fairly quickly at 13 inches tall. The legs and body are made as one piece with the head sewn on separately. The neck has a nice proportion to keep it sturdy for hours of play.

And those spots! They may just be my favorite details along with those cute snouts!

Since writing this pattern I have added a duck pattern to join them on the farm. Also added are a mini cow pattern (so you can make your own family) and a mini pig pattern!

I have loved seeing all of your cows in the Grace and Yarn Crochet Group on Facebook, all the different colors and variations are so cute!

I'd love to know what other farm animals you would like to see? Feel free to leave a comment in the group or message below!
